Privacy Policy

Second Brain is private by design. The app collects no personal data, has no account system, and keeps your notes only on your device.

Effective date: 8 October 2026 · Applies to the Second Brain Android app (com.shamil.second_brain) and this website

The short version

  • We do not collect, store, share or sell any personal data.
  • Your notes are stored only on your phone. The developer never receives them.
  • No account, no analytics, no ads, no crash reporting, no third-party SDKs that track you.
  • Uninstalling the app deletes all of its data from your device.

Who we are

Second Brain (“the app”) is developed and published on Google Play by Shamil, an independent developer (“we”, “us”). You can reach us at shamilpp4115@gmail.com.

Data we collect

None. The app has no account system, no analytics, no advertising SDKs and no crash-reporting services. It makes no network requests of its own. We do not collect, transmit, store, share or sell any personal or sensitive data.

Where your notes live

All notes, checklists, settings and history are stored in the app's private storage on your device. Other apps cannot read this storage, and the app itself never uploads it anywhere.

Android backup and device transfer

If you have turned on your phone's Google backup, Android may include the app's notes and settings in that backup. The app only allows this when the backup is end-to-end encrypted, which means your phone has a screen lock and Google cannot read the contents. The same data can also move directly to a new phone during a phone-to-phone transfer.

These backups are created and stored by Android and Google under your Google account, not by us. We have no access to them. You can turn device backup off at any time in your phone's settings.

Purchases

Second Brain is a one-time purchase on Google Play. Google processes the payment under the Google Privacy Policy. As the developer, we receive standard sales reports from Google, which can include an order number, the country of purchase and the price paid. These reports do not include your notes or anything you do in the app. We use them only for accounting, tax and refund handling. The app contains no in-app purchases and no ads.

Export and import

Export creates a JSON file containing your notes and saves it wherever you choose, using Android's system file picker. Nothing is uploaded; the file leaves your device only if you move or share it yourself. Import reads a backup file you select and shows you what it contains before changing anything. The app requests no storage permission for this, because it uses Android's Storage Access Framework.

Sharing text into the app

If you share text to Second Brain from another app, or select text and choose “Remember this”, that text is saved as a note on your device. Nothing else is read from the other app.

Notifications and reminders

When you set a reminder, the notification is scheduled and shown locally by your device. No notification content leaves your device.

Update checks

If “Check for updates weekly” is on in Settings, the app asks the Google Play Store app on your phone whether a newer version exists. This check happens between your phone and Google Play, as it does for any app installed from Google Play. The app sends nothing of its own, and you can turn the check off.

Permissions the app requests

PermissionWhy
Notifications (optional)Only to show reminders you set.
Alarms & reminders (optional)Lets reminders arrive on the minute. Without it, Android may deliver them up to about an hour late.
Run at startupOnly to re-arm reminders and the widget's midnight refresh after a reboot or app update.
VibrateFor reminder notifications.
Keep awake, foreground service, view network stateAdded automatically by Android's WorkManager library, which processes widget taps in the background. Used only on the device; the app makes no network requests of its own.

Data retention and deletion

Because we never receive your data, we hold nothing about you that could be retained or deleted on our side. On your device:

  • Notes stay until you delete them. Deleted notes go to the in-app Trash and are permanently removed after 30 days, or immediately if you empty the Trash.
  • Uninstalling the app, or clearing its storage in Android settings, permanently deletes all of its data from your device.
  • Copies in your Google device backup are managed by Google under your account and can be removed in your Google account or phone settings.

Security

Your notes are kept in the app's private, sandboxed storage, protected by Android's app isolation and your phone's screen lock and device encryption. Android backup of app data is permitted only when it is end-to-end encrypted. Because nothing is transmitted to us, there is no server copy of your data that could be breached.

Children

The app is not directed at children under 13 and does not collect personal data from anyone, including children.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, laws such as the GDPR (EU/UK), CCPA/CPRA (California) or India's DPDP Act give you rights to access, correct, delete or port your personal data, and to object to its processing. Since we do not collect or store personal data from the app, there is nothing for us to access or delete — your notes are entirely under your control on your device, and you can export them at any time. For purchase records held by Google, see Google's privacy controls. If you have any question about your data, email us and we will reply within 30 days.

This website

This website uses no cookies, no analytics and no advertising, and loads no third-party scripts or fonts. It is hosted on Vercel, which, like any web host, processes technical request data such as your IP address and browser type in short-lived server logs in order to deliver pages and protect against abuse. We do not use these logs to identify or track visitors. See the Vercel Privacy Policy.

Changes to this policy

If this policy ever changes — for example, if optional sync were added — the updated policy will be posted on this page with a new effective date, and summarized in the app's release notes before the change takes effect.
